ALEX KUSMIN, a contract killer for the London Russian mafia, has sent countless people to the afterlife in his career, but suddenly he himself is doomed to die. Alex has terminal cancer, lives a lonely life in his small apartment and hoards his not inconsiderable earnings in a sports bag, not really knowing what to do with them. Actually, he just wants to die in peace.
One more harmless assignment: His boss, the mafia godfather NICHOLAS MAXIMOV, sends him to Berlin to pick up something for him from the shady antique dealer STANISLAW.

In Berlin, Alex is met by his cousin VIKTOR, who, much to Alex's displeasure, runs a ring of trafficking girls. Viktor's latest victim is TANJA, a young Russian woman who was lured to Berlin by the promise of a modeling career. Alex sees this as an opportunity to do a good deed before he dies and makes his cousin promise to leave Tanja alone.
He almost forgets his actual mission. During an illustrious game of poker, Stanislaw gives him the mysterious object for Nicholas: a replica of the watch that Yuri Gagarin wore during his space flight.

When it later turns out that Nicholas actually wanted the original watch and not a cheap replica, Alex and Viktor embark on a violent odyssey through the Berlin underworld to get their hands on the real watch. Despite all his good intentions, Alex once again has to step over dead bodies and shows no mercy to Viktor when he finds out that he has broken his promise.

Finally, Alex has fulfilled his mission. He gives the real watch to Nicholas, but Nicholas's gratitude is limited in view of the bloodbath Alex has caused in Berlin. He even feels compelled to have Alex shot so that no trace can be traced back to him. But Alex has expected this and made provisions: he leaves his entire fortune and a watch to the rescued Tanja. Replica or original? One last good deed.
